Ken Bates is the principal of Bates Legal Pty Ltd and has practiced as a Barrister and Solicitor in all jurisdictions in Western Australia and in the High Court of Australia. He brings with him 30 years experience in all aspects of criminal and traffic law. He has been a Commonwealth and State Prosecutor and before commencing in private practice doing solely defence work, he was the Director of Legal Services at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for the State of Western Australia. Ken is a member of the panel of lawyers for Legal Aid, the Deputy Convenor of the Law Society of Western Australia Criminal Law Committeand a former member of the council of the Society. He is a member of the Criminal Lawyers Association and previously served as Vice President for several years. He has provided Continuing Professional Development to Criminal Lawyers through seminars organised by the Law Society.
